our roots

The Artisans Daughter was founded by Leila Webb, an interior designer who has a natural love and understanding of craftsmanship which has been developed over many years of working behind the scenes with some of the biggest names in interior design.

Over the years, she has developed trusted network of the very best creatives in the industry and the talented makers who are behind these projects which has led to successful and enduring partnerships.

With a varied background spanning across printing, fabrics, furniture making and lighting, she has almost 20 years of experience working in the design industry. After completing a diploma in Interior Design in 2008, her first job in the world of interiors was for Cole & Son Wallpapers - specialists in original printing methods and holding the royal warrant, but also pushing the boundaries of design with collaborations with such names as Vivienne Westwood and David Hix; following this, she went on to work for the well known luxury brand Farrow & Ball - traditional paint makers and wallpaper manufacturers. From there, she relocated to London to work at LINLEY furniture, one of the most exclusive, hand-made luxury furniture makers and interior designers in the world - undertaking projects for the likes of Claridge's and Battersea Power station; this gave Leila an insight into furniture making at the highest level and deepened a knowledge of specialist finishes and working with projects at the most exclusive forefront of design.

Continuing her journey in the interiors and furniture world, she then took the role of commercial director at Fiona Barratt Designs and represented their furniture company FBC London - getting the opportunity to promote their collaboration with Alexander McQueen alongside their signature furniture designs in Dubai as well as having the opportunity to pitch for exciting projects, such as the re-development of The Savoy Hotel. During that time she further developed her love of bespoke furniture making - exploring and learning about how unique metal finishes could be incorporated into furniture, whilst also helping to introduce world-renowned lighting designers Lindsay Adelman and Christopher Boots to the UK market.

Her love of furniture design and making led her to partner up with a specialist joinery company based in Wiltshire, a partnership that has endured over the years and the same team and network of people are working on her current projects today. In 2017, she and her husband Brendan Webb, (former Design Manager for Candy & Candy London) founded Webb & Webb - a design company specialising in ultra-high end property development and it was during this time that Leila recognised the need for a ‘black-book’ - a network of artisans and makers that would be able to produce specialist one off pieces suitable for the scale and quality of projects that she and her peers were working on.

This inspired the ‘Artisans Daughter’ - easy access to a small network of incredibly skilled craftsmen who would not be widely available or found using internet searches. Her father was one of the original inspirations behind the company name as he is a maker himself - having gained a silversmith hallmark and developing his crafts into ceramics, Leila recognised the incredible talents and traditional skill-sets that could be found throughout the U.K, and realised the challenges these small companies face of having limited marketing budgets or exposure to the relevant networks that is suited to their level of quality and expertise. With this in mind, and with her ever growing network of architects and designers, Artisans Daughter was born.

Leila is genuinely passionate about design, craft, heritage and the skills of the makers and has an authentic love and excitement about being able to represent these incredible and skilled people and bring them to a wider platform of the design industry.
